Corinthians Paulista kit design competition
(9)

The Brazilian championship gets underway this may, and to celebrate, here is a new kit competition for one of its greatest teams.
Nicknamed Timão (grand team), Sport Club Corinthians Paulista are the five time champions of Brazil, the 3 times Brazilian cup winners, 26 times Paulista State champions and 2012 Copa Libertadores and World Club Cup winners.
The team was founded in 1910, and named after the amateur team Corinthian Casuals, from London.
The original shirts the team wore consisted of Cream with black trim, but changed to the classic white shirts and black shorts combination.
The change kit has been black, with the most common design being that of black with white candy or pinstripes.
Rules -
1 - Maker - Nike
2 - Sponsor on front of shirt and back of shirt above player number. Corinthians usually play in shirts plastered with sponsors, so for ease, the logo for the competition is that of the clubs blood donation campaign, or the Caixa logo (Teams main sponsor) No other sponsor logos on shirts allowed on shirts.
3 - No green anywhere on shirts - Corinthians have a huge rivalry with Palmeiras. Any shirts breaking this will be excluded from competition.
4 - all shirts must have a number and name on the back, with the name below number, and a number on the front of shorts.
5 - Any crest from the teams history can be used.
There will be four winners for the competition - Best home kit (white shirt), best second kit (black shirt), best third kit, and best remake of the original Corinthians shirt from 1910 (Cream with black trim)
The competition will run from 7th May untill 26th of May, the start of the Brazilian championship.
The judge for the competition will be erojkitimao.blogspot.co.uk (go there to see a history of Corinthians shirts) A partial history of Corinthians shirts can be found here http://www.oldfootballshirts.com/en/teams/c/corinthians/old-corinthians-football-shirt-s9257.html *the shirt marked 1910 should be Cream, not white. Boa sorte!

We Start From Scratch

We Start From Scratch; this is the motto of the newly formed BX Brussels, who are owned by Manchester City and Belgium captain Vincent Kompany. On Wednesday 15th May 2013, the new logo was created and I thought that a competition was in order, so simply create either a home, away, third or even a keeper kit if you wish.
RULES
1. The home kit can be either black or white, same goes for the away as all we know is that the official colours are black and white.
2. The third should be a blue/yellow combination as it is based upon the flag of Brussels shown in this link https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/eb/Flag_Belgium_brussels.svg
3. The crest must be that of the newly created one shown on the club's website http://www.westartfromscratch.com and the sponsor needs to be related, be it even just the name of the club. Currently, the wikipedia page hasn't been updated so the official website is the best place to obtain the logo.
4. The entries for the competition can be shown as a full kit or just the shirt. If you decided to use printing on the back, either use "Kompany 4" or "BX Brussels 13"
5. You can submit as many entries as you want but please make sure the quality is the best it can be. The rest is then up to you.
The competition will finish Thursday 30th May 2013 then I will post the top three for each of the four kit categories and remember "We Start From Scratch", so be original.
Cheers, Matt Arty

Football Teams of Literary Places
(11)
- Hits: 355
-
We all know places like Gotham City, Metropolis or Springfield.
What we don't know is - did they have a football team to root for?
Show your skills and create football teams for cities and nations made famous by literature, cinema, tv, video games...
FAQ
"Can I create a team for a city I just invented?"
No, they must have at least a "literary" reference. If the reference is not very famous, it has to be shortly explained. Example: "Cabot Cove Murderers", "Hogsmeade Athletic", "Kakariko Center End" are OK, "Paniliakos" is OK too ("Ilion is the Greek name of Troy!") but "F.C. Dkaxjvbay" is not.
"Can I create a national team?"
Sure. Bring on Elbonia, Molvania and the Mushroom Kingdom! Hey: in that case, no other sponsorships than the kit supplier. Like in the real world.
"What kind of entry do y---"
Jersey, logo, full kit. Whatever you're good in.
"Kit brand?"
Your choice.
"Colors?"
Your choice.
"Away and third kits too?"
Ditto.
"How many entries?"
Guess.
"My choice?"
Right. But one good entry's better than N>1 poor ones.
"Deadline?"
May 31, 24:00 (Italian Summer Time, that is 22:00 UTC).
"Awards?"
For now, I'll say Best Team Name, Best Logo, Best Jersey, Best Full Kit.
I think that's all. It surely won't be, because of Murphy's Law, but whatever.
Buon lavoro!
Francis87
P.S.: "WINNERS DON'T USE DRUGS".
(Yes, it's totally unrelated, but I always wanted to end a list of rules like that.)

2013 Confederations Cup : Japan Kit Competition (closed)

As many people may have noticed, international squads are getting new kits more often than usual. Most recently, Spain, Brasil, and Italy, have released new shirts coinciding with the upcoming tournament they'll be contesting, the 2013 Confederations Cup.
One of the few teams I enjoy watching, Japan, are also competing in the 2013 Confederations Cup this Summer. To the disappointment of a Japanese and J-league shirt collector such as myself, it doesn't look as if Japan will take to the field in some fresh threads.
Getting to the point, this competition is rather simple: Design a Japan kit for the 2013 Confederations Cup. Home, Away, or both!Rules:
1. The brand must be Adidas.
2. The home shirt must be some shade of blue.
3. The away shirt can be any color. Traditionally they wear white, so that would be the preferred color for this, but feel free to experiment if you find it necessary.
4. The Home and Away shirts must feature the JFA Crest or Japanese Flag. Their recent kits have used both, the latter being a small emblem above the crest. Once again, feel free to experiment if you find it necessary to do so.
5. The entries for the competition can be shown as a full kit or just a jersey top. Keep in mind, a kit always displays better in its full form.
6. You may submit as many entries as you want. (Dont forget, quality over quantity!)The competition will run from Friday May 3rd, to Saturday May 18th, ending at 12:00 AM Midnight @ Pacific Standard Time ( West Coast USA ) At that time, I will decide on a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place winner for the home shirt, and an individual winner for the away shirt! As a prize for the first place winner, apart from the basic feeling of winning, you will receive a personal e-card from me congratulating you on your triumphant and glorious victory. The card will be written in full Japanese and is surely something that you should try your hardest to get, my friends. ;)
Cheers, Mvvm.

Chivas USA Rebrand Competition (closed)

Rebrand Chivas USA - A rebrand competition for Chivas USA.
This will involve the creation of a New Team name and a new logo. The reason for Chivas USA being chosen are as follows
1 - Chivas USA is to all intents and purposes an Oxymoronic name. Chivas USA are Modelled after Chivas (Club Deportivo Guadalajara), and are intended to be their sister club. Their logo is almost identical to that of Chivas, incorporating the coat of arms of Guadalajara, they play in adidas kits very similar to that of Chivas (red and white stripes, with blue trim and blue shorts for the home, and blue for the change), and are nicknamed El Rebaño Angelino, Chivas are nicknamed El Rebaño Sagrado (Sacred Flock). Yet Chivas have a policy, set in stone, of playing only Mexican Nationals, born in Mexico. The team and fans are so committed to this that when it was revealed that one of the team had been born in California, there was an outcry from fans. http://www.theoffside.com/world-football/but-is-he-mexican-enough.html
The transfer policy of Chivas means that none of the players on the Chivas USA roster (with the exception of the Mexican Nationals) can play for Chivas, and as a result, is of limited value to Chivas, who are already Mexicos most followed, and with 11 league titles, most decorated club domestically.
2 - The team are unattractive to many potential fans The Chivas connection is unpalatable to Non Mexican Hispanic ethnicities, thanks to Chivas having a Mexicans only policy, as well as to many Mexicans and Mexican Nationals. The team also lack an image of their own, rather one that is connected to a city in another nation rather than one in California.
3 - The team are massively overshadowed by rival teams. Chivas USA are based in the same city as LA Galaxy, and while the Galaxy regularly have sell outs and have had an average attendance (regular season and playoffs) of over 20,000, Chivas USA struggle to attract over 15,000 supporters. This is in a metropolitan area that has a population of 18 million. The rise of Xolos de Caliente Tijuana, who won the Mexican league in 2012 and can offer a higher standard of football and competition in the Copa Libertadores, will make it harder to attract a fan base in Southern California. In terms of commercial appeal, the team are overshadowed by LA Galaxy, who have a far stronger image, one that is connected to Los Angeles, something that Chivas lack.
Taking the franchise away from Chivas, and rebranding it would be a wise move. Not only would the name change give the team a proper identity that is their own, it would in all likelihood lead to a more profitable team, a proper and fierce rivalry with the Galaxy, more fans and a rise in the quality of the MLS in time.
Rules and guidelines
You can keep the team in Los Angeles, or you can more the team elsewhere in California. CA cities only if you choose to move the club. You are free to move the franchise to anywhere in California, with the exception of the Exclusion zone, Relating to the San Jose Earthquakes, an Established MLS Club There is "exclusion zone" in the Bay area (No teams in the counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda (with exception of Oakland) and Santa Cruz (San Jose Earthquakes).
The logo must be different from the current Chivas USA logo, as well as the current Deportivo Guadalajara Crest (both contain the coat of arms of Guadalajara)
For colours, you can keep the red, white and blue of Chivas, but changing it is not only encouraged, its allowed.
If you are designing a shirt, feel free to use a different maker other than adidas.
If you are keeping the team in LA, then bear in mind the Galaxy play in White, navy and gold, so those colours if you are keeping the team in LA or nearby should be avoided.
Things to bear in mind -
Look into the history the heritage of California and the city you plan to move to if you are relocating. Look at city flags, the geography of an area, the history and anything else that might be relevant. When choosing a team name and/or nickname, bear in mind that Southern California is a Bilingual area, and California was first founded by the Spanish, and many of the cities were founded when California was either a Spanish Colony or Part of Mexico. Remember, the aim of the rebrand is to create an image for the team that connects the club to the city/local area/California, to rouse, and to get butts in seats, something that Chivas USA struggle with.
Also, look at the other MLS teams, all of whom have strong images, and links to their home cities (with the exception of NY Red Bulls) The ethos of the competition is to create a team that has a strong image, a firm link to their home city and/or California, and should inspire.
The competition will run until 23.59 GMT 30th April, and a winner will be announced. Good luck!
Spider.
Update - Thank you for all the Entries, the competition is now closed. Due to the amount of entries, there will be several categories - Best Bay Area rebrand, best San Diego rebrand and best LA rebrand, plus best over all.
Update - In a competition such as this, due to the diverse nature and the Calibre of the entries, I could not pick an overall best, just my personal favourite, which may be different for other people. The ethos of the competition was to create a team that would inspire, rouse and get butts on seats, and many entries did that. Wonderfully.
For the bay area, the Aviators were a very strong entry, with a great colour scheme and identity, and the Frisco CFC entry was a great link to a part of the history of the city, and with the bonus of a bilingual name. Two great entries.
For the San Diego entries, the Vigilantes, CD San Diego, Los Artilleros, and the Star were all great entries, but for me, Los Guerreros stood out, and would be my choice for moving the team to San Diego. Moving on (or rather staying put) in Los Angeles, there were some inventive entries, such as having a team backed by monster energy drink, having a team named after the Flicks, moving the team across town to Anaheim, to the more down to earth Athletic California Entries by Fenton. Portland Timbers do play in red shirts with white sleeves on the road, but it would give the Athletic California team a recognisable image, and its a nice shirt scheme, so I would choose that as the LA rebrand.
Overall though, my favourite (Not the best, I dont think thats possible in a competition such as this) would be the San Diego Guerreros. Great colour choice, great crest, and a very worthy entry. Well done. Thank you all who entered.

Nike Template Competition (closed)

-
Last year, a great competition was run to design a new template for Adidas. It was very interesting to see what people came up with, under the pressure of producing something that would work well for a number of teams and styles. I'd love to see what some of you would think about designing a new template for Nike.
I will be judging designs primarily on the shirt, but shorts and socks will be given credit if they particularly benefit the design. Likewise if the detract from the design, it will effect your marks.
Rules:
1. All shirts must be made by Nike (obviously) and feature their logo, the crest and sponsor/number depending on whether its a club team or international. Fantasy and older crests are allowed, and the number of nike logos is not restricted, though stick to the current swoosh, rather than the wording and the swoosh. You may use just the main chest sponsor if you wish, even if you are doing a team from scandinavia or latin america etc where there is often an abundance of sponsors. Think about placement of these more than usual, as you don't want anything to ruin your template because you haven't put the thought in.
2. At least three different shirts MUST be uploaded of at least three different teams. One striped, one hooped (or horizontal striped), and the other in a different style, but feel free to upload more.
3. While I will allow you to upload black and white templates for clarity, I will be judging their application on real kits.
4. Avoid anything too similar to signatures of other brands, such as Adidas' three stripes, or Puma's two.
5. Not really a rule, but be creative! While a nice simple kit can look good, its not what the competition is about. Enter interesting different designs. Think about shirt stitching and panelling.
6. If you feel it will enhance the kit, add them, but I will not take little details such as town coat of arms or team nicknames into account.
7. To add a bit of a challenge, all designs must be of teams on Nike's roster for the 2012/2013 season. This rules out teams like Real Madrid or Tottenham, and next season' s Nike teams, such as England and Man City.
8. Collar styles must stay constant throughout the three templates. So if one has, say, a crew neck, then they all should, instead of one having a polo collar. The same goes for cuff styles, side panels and stitching.
9. Also, feel free to enter any goalkeeper templates to the competition. You don't have to do 3 versions, and it can't be one of the plain versions. I will judge this seperately.
SOME TEAMS TO CHOOSE FROM: Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton, Celtic, PSG, Barcelona, Malaga, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus, Porto, Boca Juniors, Club America, Corinthians, Santos, Internacional, Zenit St Petersburg, Spartak Moscow, Shakhtar Donetsk, Werder Bremen, PSV Eindhoven, Atletico Nacional France, USA, Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal, Croatia, Australia, Poland. AND THEN SOME SUGGESTED BY SPIDER: Charlton, Doncaster, Fleetwood, Bradford, York City Oxford United, Leyton Orient, Esperance de Tunis, Etoile Sahel, Dundee United, Hamilton Academicals, Freiburg, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Monterrey, Pachuca, Monarcas Morelia, Xolos de Caliente Tijuana, Tibrones Rojos, Club Libertad, Real Sociedad, Deportivo Alaves, MTK Budapest, Ferencvaros, Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, Sparta Praha, Austria Wien, Dinamo Bucharesti, Steaua Bucharesti, Alianza Lima, Coritiba, Bahia, Maccabi Haifa, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Urawa Red Diamonds, Kashima Antlers, All teams in the Chinese Super League, Zambia, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Vietnam. So plenty of teams and options from all across the globe!
A successful entry will be interesting and versatile. The competition will close at 12:00 GMT on Saturday 13th April, And I will choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner, aswell as a goalkeeper winner.
Get designing and get creative!
Julian 121
Thanks for all the entres, really enjoyed looking at all of them and giving feedback (please see comments on images).
Congratulations to Fenton on his winning entry and to Taggo for the winning goalkeeper. But a huge thank you to everyone who entered, some excellent designs and the results were very close.

Redhill FC is 119 years old, formed in 1894. We play in Red & White striped shirts. Our stadium is named Kiln Brow, which is in Three Arch Road, we are next to a bridge which has three arches. Our nickname is the "lobsters", but we are trying to phase that out.
Our current logo can be found here: www.redhillfc.com
There is lots of information on the site if you want to get a feel of the club, and perhaps a little research of Redhill as a town is needed if you really want to impress. Can you produce a crest to bring this club into the digital age?
If good enough, we may well adopt your work as the clubs new crest for the next 119 years!
Winner will be chosen by the Redhill FC committee.
Closing date is Saturday 2nd March 2013.

Atlético Nacional (COL) kit competition (CLOSED)

- Hits: 6464
-
Based in the city of Medellín, Atlético Nacional are one of Colombia's most successful teams, with 11 domestic titles to their name, and were the first Colombian team to win the Copa Libertadores in 1989.
The team play in the colours of the flag of the Department of Antioquia, Green and white, and for most of that time the shirts have been vertically striped. The team are nicknamed "Los Verdolagas" (the Purslanes), and "El Rey de Copas" (the king of cups).
For the 2013 season, the team have been given an old shirt style that has been worn by Barcelona in 2011. Any team that has won 11 Domestic titles, the Copa Libertadores and is one of its countries most followed sides deserves something better than a warmed up and unloved former Barça style, which is the subject of the competition.
As for the rules -
1 - Red and blue are the colours of Deportivo Independiente Medellin, so they are not allowed on the main kit sponsor, the shirt body, the shorts or the socks. An exeception can be made for the official Colombian Liga Postobon patch on the left sleeve, and for the Medellin Coat of arms, which can be used. sponsor must be postobon (Soft beverage maker based in Medellin): logos must be on front of shirt and on back of shirt above player number/name or Name/number
3 - Maker must be nike.
4 - all kits must have the Atlético Nacional crest on them.
The team has played in green and white vertical stripes for most of their history, with shorts either green or white (as worn in 1989). Away kits have been usually white, but many shades of green have been used, plus black has been used. A brief history of the kits worn by AN can be found here
The competition will start on 7th of Feb, and end on the 25th of Feb. There will be two winners - a best home kit and a best change kit. The four best home kits will be selected on the 25th, and the best of the four will be selected on the 30th.
Good luck and get designing!
Spider.
Here are the results (please see comments on images)For the best change, the kit made by Julian121 stood out, with its sash incorporating the flag of Antioquia, working wonderfully well with the club crest, and complimented by an inventive shadow stripe design to highlight the feature. The first place for the home kit goes to Curswines entry, the colour was spot on, the design was good and it would make a great Verdolagas shirt. The other entries by Fenton, Taggo and another imaginative entry by Julian121 were all worthy too of being worn by El Verde.Thank you everyone for entering the comp.Spider

Pretty straightforward - design a kit for a team that you hate or one that is a rival of your supported team. Entrants must give a reason.
The competition will close 17th February.

UPDATE:
Winner:
MartinLeRoy's Ayr United kits were not only very good designs but I really liked the childish humour used on the sponsor as well.
Congratulations. Well done. etc
Special mention goes to the DF members that don't tolerate homophobia. Didn't think the competition would come to that and was hoping for more light hearted fun.
Thanks to everyone that entered.

Existing Template With New Colourway Competition (closed)
(21)
- Hits: 4528

There are at least two fantastic competitions already open - including the Hated/rival team kit design competition and the Atlético Nacional (COL) kit competition - but here's another relatively simple and quick "just for fun"-er.
With the recent releases of the Portugal and Netherlands/Holland Away kits, Nike have shown what can be done when an existing template is recycled in new colours. They've taken some flak over the decision but I personally think it's a great way of fully utilising a great design.
So I'd like to see a similar approach taken with any club or international kit of the last 25 years. Pick a design you like and play with the colours to give the chosen team a new mid-season Third (or Fourth, or Fifth...) kit in the same style as one of their existing strips.
The manufacturer will need to be stuck to, and probably the sponsor too, though for designs based on two season kits there may be a couple of options. Please include the season in the title and a graphical representation of the inspirational kit in the corner of the upload or at least a (short) url pointing us to the original in the description.
As is standard with DF competitions, selected entries will be featured on the DF facebook page and tweeted. Any designs already uploaded to Football Shirt Culture's Fantasy Kit Designs or the DF galleries are both eligible and welcome so please don't hesitate to include them.
The competition will close at 23:59 on Saturday 16th February 2013 and the winner(s) - chosen by me - will be announced shortly afterwards.
Jay29ers.
Update - 17/2/13:
The competition is now closed but please, please continue to upload these types of designs to the main gallery.
These competitions are always hard to judge and this one is no exception. Firstly, plenty of honourable mentions...
To denishurley for combining two of Arsenal's ugliest kits, predating the actual return of white away shirts to the Gunners by seven years and, naturally, giving the North London club another green and navy Away, as well as Liverpool a Romania-like Third which surely would have been far more popular than their real change kits at that time.
To Silky Smooth for giving us a Napoli shirt that we felt we'd already seen in existence - we hadn't - and a Croatia entry that made us think we were checking FSC, not DF.
And to ehrenfest, who uploaded several designs, the best of which was a black version of the Manchester United Away which drifted slightly into referee kit territory. One for Howard Webb then.
But the winner is Corinth, who came up with a fabulous design only to find adidas and Germany had got there first, and then, undeterred, gave us a bolt from the blue with a white and red version of the Corinthians "St George Cross" Centenary Third shirt. Had it been produced, and worn in a commemorative game, it could have become one of the most sought after shirts of all time, like the similar Internazionale Centenary Away. A great shout and a very worthy winner.
Well done to everyone who "got" this competition and contributed. The gallery will remain an enjoyable place to visit for some time to come.

Major League Soccer (MLS) "Traditional" Crest Competition (closed)

There are at least two fantastic competitions already open - including the Hated/rival team kit design competition and the Atlético Nacional (COL) kit competition - but here's another relatively simple and quick "just for fun"-er.
The North American-based MLS features teams with some particularly striking corporate identities. Some of the crests are fantastic but I was wondering how more traditional and intricate English-style designs would suit the sides. I'm thinking Newcastle United, the old Wigan Athletic crest, or maybe the initialled style of Rangers. It's often claimed that the USA has no history but this is obviously rubbish so what features of each city's past could be incorporated into this sort of crest? How, for example, do you depict a (Los Angeles) Galaxy in intricate, fully embroidered glory? Should the New York Red Bulls have a motto in Latin?
Any current or confirmed future MLS member can be chosen but the team name should not be changed.
As is standard with DF competitions, selected entries will be featured on the DF facebook page and tweeted. Any appropriate designs already uploaded to the DF galleries are both eligible and welcome so please don't hesitate to include them.
The competition will close at 23:59 on Saturday 16th February 2013 and the winner(s) - chosen by me - will be announced shortly afterwards.
Jay29ers.
Update - 17/2/13:
The competition is now closed. Thank you for all the entries.
There were some fantastic efforts, many that would have done each MLS side proud, but only a few really captured the essence of what the competition was about,
I was looking for crests which followed the style of early English/British examples and whilst there were some lovely ideas, brilliantly executed, such as Rey's New England crest (which we had a bit of fun fooling people with on Twitter) and CiaranW90's sojorn into Eastern Europe the spoils have to go to the two designs which would have worked best on an English kit from yesteryear.
CiaranW90's DC United crest took details from both the city's iconography and its status as the capital of the USA, creating something that was unmistakeably American but in a less overtly modern or corporate way than we usually see. Steevo picked a team intrinsically linked to the corporate world but, like Cowboys v Aliens in crest form, mixed the modern content with an olde worlde context to create something which made the New York Red Bulls' identity more palatable.
Congratulations to CiaranW90, Steevo and everyone who made this competition so interesting.

Philippines Kit and Crest Design Competition (CLOSED)

With the recent resurgence of football in the Philippines and a steady rise to prominence in Southeast Asia, as well as the reconstruction of the national league, I (John Valor) thought it would be a good idea to start a kit competition to honor the many milestones achieved by my country in the past few years.
The Philippines is the home country of FC Barcelona legend and all-time top scorer in all competitions including friendlies, Paulino Alcantara, with a 369 goals in 357 appearances. The Philippines has also beaten Asian heavyweights Japan 15-2 in the year, with Alcantara playing for the national team, now endearingly known locally as the 'Azkals', meaning 'street dog'.
The national team now boasts the likes of top-flight players Neil Etheridge of the EPL's Fulham and Stephan Schrock of Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
The rules are as follows:
1. There is no limit to the number of entries (home, away, third, goalkeeper, crest) that may be entered.
2. Though the current technical sponsor is Puma, any brand may be used, excluding fantasy brands.
3. References to Philippine history may be incorporated into the kit and will be given extra consideration.
4. One winner will be selected from each type of entry (home, away, third, goalkeeper, crest)
Deadline for the competition will be on February 1st, 2013. Good luck and happy designing!
*UPDATE* The competition is now closed. Winners will be announced in the next few days. Thank you to all who entered.
*UPDATE* SInce there aren't really that much entries, I've decided to just pick the best three kits from the ones that were entered
1st: julian121, away kit (white) The abstract design of he flag is something I found interesting and very creative
2nd: Woo-Sport, home kit (blue) The barong tagalog-inspired collar makes it a very unique entry, and one that I believe deserves great merit. Well done.
3rd: manutd_kitman21, home kit (white) The puma styling is distinct and it looks like something they would make for the team in real life.
Again, thank you to all who entered!

This is a fantasy kit competition for the greek team AEK.
Participants will compete for a best Home, Away, Third and best kit.
AEK is a club with national reputation and it's home is located on Greece's capital, Athens. The club was originally located on a city called Constantinople, which is no longer greek, after the Turkish invasion.
The club's two base colours are yellow (represents hope) and black (represents sorrow for the loss of the big city to Turkey)
I challenge you to create kits that represents what we know as AEK, while following a set of rules:
1. Home kit must have yellow or black as base colour
2. Kit designing company can be anything (AEK's current company is Puma)
3. Designers are free to use or not use any sponsor
4. Red and green cannot be used as base colours in home or away kits (due to rivalry with Panathinaikos and Olympiacos)
5. Participants are free to upload as much as any kits they like
The winners will be picked and published on 1st of February, by me (VSync32). I hope participants will use their skills and inspiration to produce a great idea of a kit that represents the dignity and sorrow behind the story of this great team, one of the few clubs that can be respected by rival fans (like me).
Competition Results:
The winners of this one month competition have been chosen, one of each of home, away, third and best kit.
WINNERS:
CiaranW90 for best Home Kit (Yellow)

Flag Based International Kit Competition (CLOSED)

I have always appreciated kits with dramatic elements of the national flag, and enjoyed creating my own fantasy versions. I would therefore love to see how the rest of the DF community would approach the challenge.
Rules.
You may post either home or away kits, though they must follow the typical colours of the nation. eg. Germany play in white so therefore, a purely red black and yellow home shirt would not be eligible as a home.
There is no reason to stick to the manufacturer of your chosen country, fantasy brands are allowed.
Must be of International teams, though not necessarily FIFA affiliated. Teams such as Catalonia are eligible.
Extra credit will be awarded to attention of detail and national culture and heritage.
Alternative flags are accepted, such as Spiderbait's flag of Burgandy Spain kit.
No limit on number of entries.
There must be more elements of the flag in the kit besides colours, though creative adaption is encouraged!
All kits must be void of sponsors, and feature a crest and manufacturer logo on the shirt and shorts (incorporating them is part of the challenge), a name and number on the back, and a number on the front and shorts.
Details.
I will vote for a first, second and third placed winner, soon after the closing date of Friday January 25th at 23:59 GMT. This may be extended subject to popularity.
All DF members are eligible, bar myself. Get your patriotic heads, and get designing, I look forward to seeing your entries!
Julian121
This competition is now closed. I certainly have my work cut out deciding from the amount of kits that have been posted. Thankyou for your entries, and I will announce the winners shortly.
RESULTS
3rd - myki: Germany. A wonderfully bold, 'splattered paint' flag interrupts an otherwise classy kit. One of the best adaptions of the flag in the competition.
2nd - visualsportdesign: Macedonia (Red Shorts). The best kit of the competition in which the designer has covered the entire shirt with the flag, as was done many times. Though his later entry without a Portuguese Armillary Sphere on the inside collar may be more accurate ( :P ), I think that the red shorts make the kit look that much more intimidating.
1st - Spider: Ethiopia. A lot of research has obviously gone in to finding a flag to use, and a large level of ingenuity into adapting it to the kit. It fits very nicely with the painted number and name, and the level of detail such as the calia lilies and watermarked walia give the kit that much more individuality and a real sense of national pride. Very well done.
Honourable Mentions.
Martin127's classy kits for Ethiopia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. CiaranW90's inspired use of the v neck collar to construct the flag in his Palestine Kit. Rey's great looking striped yoke on his Catalonia shirt.
Again, thank you all so much for your entries, it was very tough deciding the eventual winners as there was so many great entries. Keep on entering all the other comps open at the moment, and keep featuring all your great work!

Morocco African Cup of Nations competition. (closed)

THIS COMPETITION WILL BEGIN ON 5th JAN, AND END ON 19TH JAN (THE DAY MOROCCO START THEIR ACoN AGAINST ANGOLA)
While Puma give African teams kits full of heritage, innovative designs and wonderful paint effects, their German rivals are seemingly content to give African nations shirts straight from the teamwear section of a catalogue, as demonstrated by the shirts worn by Morocco, the 1976 African Cup of Nations winners, and the hosts of the 2015 competition.
As the hosts of the 2015 competition, and contenders for the 2013, this competition is to design a set of kits for the 2013 and 2015 cup of nations.
The rules -
Manufacturer - adidas
All kits must have number on front of shirt and shorts, and on back of shirt.
All kits must have name of back of shirt.
Morocco have for most of their history played in red as their first choice colour, but have played in Green as first choice. Their change shirts have been white for much of their history.
The competition start date will be 5th of January, and will end on the 19th of January, where the kits will be marked out of 15th and the winner will be announced.
Spider
Update - 1/2/13:
I've picked four kits that I thought represented Morocco the best:- Taggo- CurswineI have picked a winner out of the four best kits...And the winner is...The Zelij pattern on the side of the shirt and the Star on the front of the shirt work very well together, and it looks imposing, individual and would give the Moroccan team real identity. Well done Fenton.Spider

Tottenham Hotspur 2012-13 Under Armour Yellow Fourth (4th) Kit Competition (closed)

Something I've talked about in my blog and has also been discussed at length on TrueColoursFootballKits.com is the issue that Tottenham Hotspur don't really have a suitable kit to avoid a clash with their hosts, West Bromwich Albion, at The Hawthorns, on 2nd February 2013.
Various solutions have been discussed, including West Brom changing to navy shorts and socks, Spurs wearing their full navy Away kit with West Brom wearing white baselayers, Spurs wearing one of their goalkeeper kits outfield and, finally, Spurs releasing a yellow Fourth kit for that game.
It wouldn't be the first time it has happened so I'd like to see what DF members could come up with. Spurs have a great tradition of wearing yellow Away kits, which you can find on HistoricalKits.co.uk.
Looking for designs of yellow kits, including shirt, shorts and socks and, if you see fit, baselayers - perhaps with elements interchangeable with the other kits. The manufacturer should be Under Armour and the sponsor Aurasma.
As is standard with DF competitions, selected entries will be featured on the DF facebook page and tweeted and designs already uploaded to Football Shirt Culture's Fantasy Kit Designs or the DF galleries are both eligible and welcome so please don't hesitate to include them.
The competition will close at 23:59 on Saturday 5th January 2013 and the winner(s) - chosen by me - will be announced shortly afterwards.
Happy designing!

Update - 8/1/13: The competition is now closed and I have chosen my winner.
This competition, despite being relatively short, has been one of the most difficult to judge from those I've opened. The standard of entries was extremely high and one of six or seven designs could quite easily have won.
It was fascinating to see how different designers approached the challenge. To make things easier, I ruled out entries which contained a significant amount of black/navy. As the purpose was to avoid a clash with West Brom, the light/dark approach could have caused problems so, despite there being some great efforts in that style, I looked elsewhere.
Several people looked to specific kits from the past, and denishurley, Steevo and Fenton brought the memories flooding back. Another tack, which we've seen on fantasy Dortmund kits recently, was to use different yellows together as giannakakis - incorporating a gradient - arius85, DJoletino and matte1897 - with an existing Under Armour/Spurs template nicely adapted - demonstrated expertly.
The most Under Armour-like entirely original design was surely that of Taggo. If Spurs do release a Fourth kit for the West Brom game - fingers crossed - then it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if it ended up looking quite similar to Taggo's entry.
In the end the competition was so hard to judge that I decided to simply choose the shirt that I'd be most likely to buy and wear. Whilst so many designs would look great on the pitch, erikwinterburn's classic take on a Spurs yellow kit - particularly the shirt - was one that had that timeless quality without being boring.
So congratulations to erikwinterburn, as the winner of the competition, but also to all those who took to the time to buy into the concept. Well done.

Novelty Christmas Kit Competition (closed)

As a quick just-for-fun competition, I was thinking that the German tradition (Dortmund, Werder Bremen?) of releasing very temporary Christmas kits at this time of year was worth exploring.
Looking for designs of kits, including shirt, shorts and socks and, if you see fit, baselayers, and crests. Any team, any manufacturer, any sponsor - you can surely have some fun with that - anything goes.

Update - 8/1/13: The competition has now closed and I've chosen my winner.
Despite not too many designers getting involved, there was a decent array of entries which were both imaginative and informative.
Using artistic licence regarding the term "Christmas", Spider gave us both a kit celebrating the African-American observance of Kwanzaa and one representing the Jewish festival of Chanuka/Hanukkah.
As a late entry, it was also good to see the return of Corstorph with his Fair Isle jumper-styled Inverness kit. I'm sure Errea have indeed taken note, and decided to never release anything like that. It may well be their loss.
But by far, the member who embraced the competition the most was Rey. He taught us about O Apalador, gave us a Times Square Ball New York Red Bulls shirt and provided what I think is the best, and indeed winning, Christmas Kit design, in the form of a discrete Real Madrid shirt, complete with snowflakes and lower profile adidas logo and sponsor. We've seen the technique before but the mix of white and silver really evoked the time of year just passed and was an understated approach to an idea that may usually be tackled in a more garish way.
Very well done to all who entered. I apologise for the late closure and announcement but it's not just Madridistas that celebrate the Festival of the Kings!
