Designed by Adidas
Version FIFA World Cup 2010
Year 09/11

German home outfit for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to be used until 2012.

The 2010 edition of Germany's home shirt to be worn in South Africa for the World Cup is a traditional plain white shirt, gone is the black band across the shirt which featured on the previous version, in its place instead is a series of pinstripes located behind the German crest in the national colours of 'Schwarz-Rot-Gelb' (Black-Red-Gold). The gold colour used here however is slightly darker than what you would find on the flag and more metallic in appearance. The badge on the shirt also uses this metallic gold, a theme which runs through the entire kit, encased within the crest is not only the German FA logo but three stars signifying their World Cup championships acquired in 1954, 1974 and 1990, which when more closely inspected these dates can be seen scribed into the stars.

The shirt is adorned as always with Adidas' three stripes running on the shoulder and sleeves but being dividing by a white patch, presumably a design feature to make competition logos more identifiable when printed. As noted earlier gold is a theme running through the shirt, it can also be found decorating the sleeves and around the collar. Another instance of the gold can be found on the back of the shirt just below the collar on a piece of text which reads 'Deutscher Fußball-Bund', the name of the German football association.

The shorts that accompany the shirt are black with Adidas' three stripes in white on either side of them extending from the waist down the leg uninterrupted. The German logo, in the same style as the shirt, can be clearly seen on the front on the right side with the adidas logo located on the back of the left leg. Their is also a small gold trim semi encompassing the bottom of the leg.

The socks are predominantly white with the Adidas logo located on the back of the leg in black and also cursive writing on the front of sock reading 'DFB' which of course stands for 'Deutscher Fußball-Bund'. The tops of the socks are black with gold Adidas three stripes encompassing them.

The shirt is a definite winner for me, I was a big fan of the previous German shirt and even though I don't think this kit quite matches that, this effort from Adidas certainly has a charm of its own. The only thing about it that I think lets it down, is the collar, which has a slight dickie-bow look about it. The shorts and socks have a quite simple look but definitely contribute to the overall aesthetics of the kit. The details on the kit are very nice and meaningful. From the cursive writing on the collar and the socks which adds to the overall classy look giving it the feel of a luxury garment. The date etchings in the three stars of the logo it all contributes to a beautiful piece of work by Adidas.

Good points - Classic look, looks to draw some inspiration from the 1974 kit.
- Gold trim gives a classy look and adds some originality.
- Nice modern design to it but understated as all in white.
Bad Points - Could have used a bit more red as with just the black and gold is a little dull.
- The black crest takes away the originality point as was previously used on the EURO'96 shirt.
- Collar, over designed.
