Russia's newest kit from Adidas for the years covering 2009 to 2011

The shirt from Adidas is quite original to say the least, never before, with any other brand, has Russia played with a maroon coloured kit. Adidas' original take on the Russia kit doesn't just stop there, it also includes horizontal pinstipe hoops in a golden colour. Upon closer inspection of these hoops you can see the amount of detail which has been worked into these kits, the hoops themselves contain an arch formation which is possibly representative of the famous Triumph Arch situated on Moscow's Poklonnaya Hill, but I am not certain about that. While checking out this you may also spot yet even more detail in the form of the embossed floral looking print, in the aforementioned hoops, this appears to be a traditional Russian pattern with links to rural Russia. The crest has also change since the days of Nike, now instead of sporting the Russian FA logo above the heart, Adidas have decided to change this for the Russian coat of arms. This is probably most an aesthetics choice more than anything, as the coat of arms colour scheme lends itself better to the maroon and gold rather than a dark blue look which was provided by the former logo. It hasn't totally disappeared though, it has just been relegated down to appearing on the bottom of the shirt to be tucked away and not seen when the kit is properly worn. The overall design of the shirt is very similar to that of Germany, the mesh inserts look identically located on the sleeves, the Adidas stripes are divided in the same way and the seams are also in similar locations. The collar does differ to that of it's German counterpart however. It is of a more solidly round variety, featuring a hint of gold at the front of it. Around the back of the collar an insignia signed with 'Россия' ('Russia' in Russian) and half of the double-headed eagle above it.

The shorts are also maroon with a golden trim, and also feature a singular gold line in the same style as the shirt semi-surrounding the legs at the front of them. Adidas stripes in golden run from the waistband all the down the shorts until the end. The Russian coat of arms are also used as the crest here on the right side of the leg while an Adidas logo is situated on the back of the left leg also in a golden colour.

Finally the socks to accompany the outfit are again predominantly maroon in colour but also have the pinstripe hoops feature just as the shirt does. These are joined by the ever present Adidas stripes which surround the socks at the top which fit in quite well with the hooped theme. Their is text located on the front of the socks in between the hoops, this reads 'РФС' which stands for 'Российский Футбольный Союз' which in turn means Russian Football Union in English.

For me this kit just screams luxurious, the deep maroon colour is complimented very nicely by the gold, two colours that work together on pretty much any level. The detail put into this shirt is brilliant, the embossed traditional floral patterns, although they may have somewhat of an overtone of a carpet, this carpet is certainly a top notch one that I would happily have in my home. The detail put into the horizontal pinstripes too adds something quite unique to this shirt which cannot really be found anywhere else. The design of the shirt, just like the German shirt is modern yet understated, thanks to the fact that the seams of the shirt are also nicely hidden in the same colour as the rest of the shirt. For me it is a great shame to see Russia change the white shirt to an away shirt and discard blue from their kit palette, but I do love the colours used here as untraditional as they are, it is just one of the nicest looking shirts I have seen in a while and a real shame that it will not be seen in South Africa this summer. A must for any collector.
