Roma president Rosella Sensi has announced plans for the club to build a new AS Roma stadium, which will be named after Sensi's father and will be built in the Aurelia district of Italy's capital city.
AS Roma will use the English model for football stadiums when drawing up detailed plans for their new home, club officials said.
Roma share the Stadio Olimpico with city rivals Lazio but want to build their own 55,000-seater stadium in the western outskirts of the city to increase much-needed revenue and bring fans closer to the pitch.
The Olimpico has a running track and coach Claudio Ranieri, a former Chelsea boss, is looking forward to the new stadium's dugouts being next to the fans as they are in England.
In celebration of the upcoming World Cup 2010 , Yohji Yamamoto and adidas launched the Y-3 Spring/Summer 2010 collection
Yohji Yamamoto displayed a sure populist touch by phrasing his unisex collection for Y-3, the collaboration with adidas, in a language that everybody will be speaking next summer: football. Jésus Luz (Madonna’s boyfriend) was among the models showing off a collection that included see-through shirts, scarves and tube dresses made from laser-cut netting, high-concept trainers and very low-slung harem pants. Black aside, the colours came from the teams due in South Africa for the World Cup. Interspersed with Michael Jackson numbers, the soundtrack was national anthems.
Following on from our interview with Umbro UK , Jonathan Courtenay, Managing Director of Umbro Ireland also very kindly agreed to talk to us about the brand's direction across the Irish Sea .
Jonathan, thank you for taking time out to speak to us. Umbro Ireland seems distinct from the rest of the company in that stores and web prominence are geared towards football in the Republic of Ireland , rather than worldwide. Is this also the thinking that goes into the design of the kits, as whilst the designs share traits with UK strips there seem to be specific features such as Irish tricolours?
Umbro have repeatedly hit the football design headlines this year with the new England kit release and their Tailored By approach. Their Senior Designer David Blanch very kindly agreed to answer our questions regarding the brand's new image. David, thank you for talking to us. The England kit launch is usually a high-profile event but this year surpassed all others in marketing and publicity and, more importantly, in the direction change of the kit itself. How long had the kit been in development and when was the new understated and tailored approach decided upon?
