Slovenia have one of the most iconic examples of kit “colours” in international football, and indeed in football in general, so excitement wasn’t in short supply when the international side were announced as the focus for the 247th stage of the Kit of the Week (KOTW) challenge.
It was a stage that didn’t disappoint. And we say that a lot, but very few stages do disappoint, so it’s with good reason.
No, the members - an assiduous lot - put in the required effort to ensure the voting page, littered with the famous Triglav mountain in various styles (as well as plenty of Nike Swooshes), ended up at least the equal of the NZS’s real-life selection from earlier this year.
There are too many to list them all but the highlights included giannakakis’s effort, with its combination of texture and “dip-dye” style sublimation to hint at the skyline, the ultra-modern look of cukun’s, ONI’s slightly abstract route, Cydental_kits’ intricate-yet-understated offering and Demungos’s adidas departure.
And, of course, the winners. Sithuralom included patterning from capital Ljubljana’s Vurnik House to great effect, and NSGraphics decided to apply the Slovenian national flag colours, which also worked wonderfully.
Honestly, the standard was very, very high. Making the two victors’ achievement all the more impressive.
