People often forget Uruguay when discussing the big boys of international football, but winning the World Cup twice, plus Olympic football golds and a whopping 15 South American Championship/Copa América titles certainly qualifies them for the Kit of the Week (KOTW) treatment.
Rumours abound, apparently, that La Celeste will soon be joining the adidas stable, so the KOTW stage dedicated to them recently did have some three-striped entries, but supposedly outgoing supplier Puma got their branding on half the designs, including two of the three that dominated the voting.
The third of that trio carries giannakakis’s “GOL!” logo and brings back memories of Uruguay releases of the past, as many shirts submitted did, but also, it could be claimed, an Olympique de Marseille Away shirt worn by Uruguayan legend Enzo Francescoli.
Corinth was the runner-up, with a change shirt that boasts a lovely tonal sublimation pattern on the deep-red base, and victory was secured by ONI through a beautiful design that includes a very modern take on the Uruguayan flag’s Sun of May focal point.
