As you may have heard, German side St. Pauli have announced a new kit deal with Danish manufacturer hummel.

This is a just-for-fun competition to design fantasy kits - shirts, shorts, socks - for the 2014-15 season, pre-empting the official releases. We're looking for Home kits, Away kits, Third kits, goalkeeper kits and anything else you think of that would seem appropriate to a reasonable mind.

The club and the manufacturer have cult followings and the kits may well be best designed with that in mind, but there is certainly artistic licence available.

Rules:-

1) The kits must be made by hummel, obviously

2) Probably best to stay reasonably faithful to reality in terms of colours, crest and sponsors, but originality should not be bypassed.

3) All designs should be submitted by 23:59 on Sunday 18th May 2014 - so don't dally - with winning entries to be decided upon shortly after that date

That's probably it, but we have a special guest judge for this competition - get this - Mr Jason Lee, who is actually the man behind the real hummel St Pauli kits which will be released over the next few months. The competition is closed and Jason Lee - of hummel - has picked his winners. So over to Jason...

"Here are my picks. I didn’t want to pick an out-and-out winner, so I’m picking 3 winners in a tie in no specific order.

1. Image 26, Fenton

HOME: Nice tasteful front design. I think the front design alone on a clean silhouette without the fading chevrons would’ve worked.

2. Image 38, Fenix

HOME: Very nice use of colors, especially on the red collar.

Don’t quite understand the use of green pinstripes, but the color adds a touch of a fashion element to it which is very nice.

Apart from the chevrons missing, it’s another tasteful entry that could be envisioned as an actual kit.

3. Image 53, RedStarLiverpool

HOME: Tasteful retro look silhouette paired with textures on the jersey and shorts makes this a really nice kit. It’s an entry that hasn’t gone for the typical use of colors/graphics, so it scores points for that.

4. Image 61, matupeco

GK: I am personally a fan of wild patterns and in this day and age, you see the wilder patterns on 3rd and gk kits. Creativitiy is also shown in the way the pattern continues on the base layer…..good job.

5. Image 2, irvingperceni

Away: If this fabric is made as a jacquard or drop needle, it would be the business……a very retro henley style. Love the fact that the “hummel” logo is on a rectangular badge…..very old school. Nice two-color detail on the sleeve and same detailing on shorts. The chevrons wouldn't work in terms of regulations, but overlooking that, a very stylish kit!

6. Image 42, matupeco

3rd: Although this is entered as a 4th kit, I think it could make a sweet 3rd or away. Love the fact that research has been done on “Republik”, the choice of typeface is spot on, the red accents are tasteful, and the use of melange is a winner!

Home: First of all, just on username alone, this one’s a winner! In all seriousness, the stripe pattern on the jersey is very nice because it’s a marriage of sport and fashion. That speaks very well to the hummel DNA. Nice white piping accent on the collar."
